Meet Bayshore Optometric Clinic’s Doctors

Dr. Harninder Sandhu

Owner

Dr. Harninder Sandhu is the proud owner of Bayshore Optometric Clinic. She is originally from UK, Birmingham. She attended the University of Bradford, where she received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Optometry in 1996. After training for a year in London, Dr. Sandhu, licensed as an optometrist in many parts of UK, gained experience in different types of clinics, providing a service to a wide variety of patients. Dr. Sandhu returned to University and completed her Masters of Optometry in 1999.

Dr. Sandhu decided to move to Canada to further pursue her career. She completed her exams and became a licensed optometrist and a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario. Over the years she has worked in both an independent environment as well as in an office with other associates.

Dr. Sandhu has now opened her own clinic in the Bayshore Shopping Centre where she provides services in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu. Dr. Sandhu has a special interest in eye manifestations of diabetes and enjoys fitting contact lenses for all types of patients, for example patients with astigmatism or presbyopia (bifocal/multifocal contacts).

She enjoys volunteering her services and has taken part in a mission to Guyana. While there, she helped the residents of this developing country obtain the gift of sight with gently used glasses that have been kindly donated.

Dr. Sandhu is a member of the College of Optometry and has been a member of the Inquiries, Reports and Complaints Committee. She has also been a member of the Disciplinary Committee. She is also an active member of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists.

Outside of work, she enjoys CrossFit, gardening, biking, running, and spending time with her daughters and husband.

Dr. Karen Mowbray

Optometrist

Dr. Mowbray is originally from Ancaster, Ontario and received her education at McMaster University and the University of Waterloo, first in Natural Sciences and then in Optometry, graduating with her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1993. She has since completed a 100-hour training program in pharmaceutical treatment of eye disease, and has worked in a variety of practice settings (urban, rural, and on a third world eye care mission) gaining experience with a broad range of eye disorders.

Dr. Mowbray is passionate about education. In addition to working as a clinical optometrist, she works with the Optometry Examining Board of Canada, creating interactive exam stations for optometrists from outside the country who wish to emigrate to Canada. She also volunteers as a reviewer of new courses for the U.S. Council on Optometric Practitioner Education. In addition, Dr. Mowbray works as Quality Assurance Assessor and Coach for the College of Optometrists of Ontario, helping to maintain the excellent standard of care in Ontario.

Dr. Mowbray is a member of both the Canadian and Ontario Association of Optometrists. Outside of the clinic she enjoys running, spin classes, reading, and just spending time with her family and friends.

Dr. Imran Hussain

Optometrist

Dr. Imran Hussain was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree from McMaster University in 2002. He then attended Aston University in Birmingham, UK where he received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Optometry in 2006. Dr. Hussain was licensed as an optometrist in the UK where he gained extensive experience working at various optometric settings both at hospital and independent practices. He returned home to Canada and became a licensed member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario in 2010. He then commenced his professional tenure of 10 years of providing exceptional eye care to his patients in the Greater Toronto Area. Having moved to Ottawa in 2020, Dr. Hussain joined Bayshore Optometric Clinic and has been a valued addition to our team ever since.

Dr. Hussain’s endearing personality is liked by all – elderly and pediatric patients alike. His compassion towards his patients enables him to always listen and understand their concerns. Dr. Hussain strongly believes in the well-being of his patients and strives to highlight the importance of proper eye care and vision health through his daily interactions. He takes great pride in educating his patients about their conditions and making their eye care visits be a positive and fulfilling experience.

An accomplished professional, Dr. Hussain is also an avid aquarium hobbyist and a dedicated family man. He also enjoys testing his culinary skills from time to time and doing DIY projects at home to explore his creative side. He lives in Ottawa with his wife and two sons who love spending quality time with him.

Dr. Jessica Laing

Optometrist

Dr. Laing was born and raised in Newfoundland. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Newfoundland University, before moving to the untied states to complete her Optometry degree in Massachusetts at MCPHS. During her degree she completed rotations in Connecticut, Rhode island, and Georgia with a focus in binocular vision and primary care. She is a member in good standing of the college of Optometrists of Ontario.

She graduated in 2021, and moved to Ottawa to practice. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and hiking.

Office Manager

Elizabeth joined out clinic in September 2014 where she works as an optometric technician. Her work includes pretesting patients, completing visual fields, training contact lens users, and helping to book in patients. In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her family.
